You can start to menstruate during any 24 hours, and it continues through all 24 hours. Most girls have their periods during the night. Since it's a gravity drip, it may be lighter while sleeping...

I've always thought telling your mom face to face is the way to go. Just sit down with her at the kitchen table and say, "Mom . . . I just wanted you to know I got my period." You might ask her advice on?

Brown stuff is a menstrual discharge with blood that has lost its oxygen and is a normal menstrual flow. You are just fine.

Your period is a drip and can vary and stop and start, and have light or heavier days. It doesn't work like a faucet that gets turned on and off...
